who we are

SEEKING A CURE FOR PEDIATRIC BRAIN CANCER

What in the world is a Chickaroo?   Why a Team, you ask? Well, Chickaroo is the nick-name of our beautiful, vivacious daughter, Caroline.  This affectionate moniker was elevated to team status on April 26, 2007, when we learned that Caroline had an inoperable, incurable, plum sized tumor lodged deep within her brain.  Caroline knows that while she is the one with living with the brain tumor; she is not fighting her battle alone.  Her parents, brothers, extended family, and countless friends are whole-heartedly supporting her as a team --Team Chickaroo!

Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer death in children and the second overall cause of childhood death after accidents. While significant strides have been made in many forms of childhood cancer, pediatric brain tumors have all but been neglected. Caroline has a tumor known as a Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytoma (PLGA). It is inoperable and presently incurable. Frontline treatment options for PLGAs date back to the mid-1980’s, and remain toxic, invasive and highly ineffective. This is unacceptable to us as parents.

We have embarked on a mission to do what is within our power to change things for Caroline and other children with PLGAs.  We are having an impact!  Since 2007, Team Chickaroo has raised over $1,000,000 for PLGA research. We are in this for the CURE and determined to prevail.  We hope you’ll join as, as TOGETHER, there is no doubt that WE will make a difference.

Most sincerely,
Rick and Sarah Hamilton
